The foundation ProSpecieRara (PSR) is a not for profit and non-governmental organisation that is conserving and promoting biodiversity in agriculture since 1982. In close cooperation with horticulturists, farmers, private and public institutions and 4750 volunteers, PSR guarantees the survival and sustainable use of endangered cultivated plants and rare breeds. The foundation coordinates an on farm conservation management network with 120 different orchards (2000 fruits and berries), 10 demonstration farms with 32 different rare breeds, national vineyards with over 95 varieties and 10 different big show gardens with about 2000 vegetable and ornamental varieties. In 2003 ProSpecieRara created an own label for the marketing of traditional and old varieties and cooperates with the biggest supermarket (COOP) in Switzerland. Since 2011 ProSpecieRara runs a branche office in Germany (ProSpecieRara-Germany). The organisation has about 30 employees and is supported by about 12'000 paying members.
Within BRESOV, PSR will be involved in the activities of WP3 and WP5. PSR will provide its network and its connections to the stakeholders of the value chain. With a strong background in awareness raising and communication activities, PSR will also be involved in WP6 and sharing it’s public relation possibilities within the BRESOV project.
