The Polytechnic University of Marche (UNIVPM), established in Ancona in 1969, numbers ~17,000 students and 1,300 professors, teaching assistants, researchers, technical and administrative personnel. The Department of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences (D3A) includes researchers, who carry out studies on agronomy and crop sciences, agro-forestry, food production and landscape and environmental valorisation. The D3A focuses on issues (agriculture, food, environment, and energy) which are at the heart of the challenges related to food, environment and energy which affect the whole of society.
The UNIVPM Plant Genetics group works on plant breeding (mainly grain legumes: Phaseolus, Lens, and Cicer; and cereals: barley, and wheat), biodiversity, identification of genes controlling important agronomic characters, evolution and adaptation, development of molecular markers for Marked Assisted Selection and Genomic Selection by using genomics approaches. Within BRESOV, the research group is involved in WP1, WP2, WP3, and WP6, with a major role in WP2 (Leader) and WP3, and it will coordinate all the activities related to P. vulgaris for these WPs.
