The Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) is a public University with over 35,000 students and 2,800 teaching and research staff. UPV has 40 research centers and institutes and has an intense research and innovation activity in scientific and technological fields. One of the research institutes of UPV, and which will be involved in BRESOV, is the Instituto Universitario de Conservación y Mejora de la Agrodiversidad Valenciana (COMAV). COMAV has a long tradition in conservation, enhancement and breeding of vegetable crops, with many contributions in this subject.
UPV will lead WP3, where selection and breeding activities for developing new plant materials specifically adapted to organic agriculture will be carried out. The UPV team will undertake mostly works in tomato and participate in the phenotyping for multiple traits, including morphological, tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses, quality, water and nitrogen use efficiency, and genotyping of a core collection, a breeding set and selected materials of the BRESOV project. UPV will also be involved in devising methods for ensuring the quality of organic seeds as well as in dissemination activities.
